Winner of both The
Barbara Deming Prize for Women Playwrights and The Kittredge
Foundation Award A Piece of My Heart is based on the true
stories of six courageous women who served in Vietnam as they
struggle to make sense of a war that irrevocably changed both them
and the nation that sent them. Charged with contemporary resonances
and told with straightforward authenticity, theirs are profound
stories of triumph and reconciliation, separating the soldier from
the politics of war.

A PIECE OF MY HEART takes
place in two time periods, 20 years apart. It is a presentational,
non-linear ensemble piece which requires the actors to take on a
variety of roles on top of their main character to fill in the
blanks as each character tells her story.
Requirements:
WOMEN: Please prepare a 1-2
minute contemporary monologue. You will also be asked to read from
the script. If you are auditioning for Maryjo, please bring
your guitar along and be prepared to play and sing a short excerpt
from a 60s era pop or folk song.
MEN: Please prepare a 1-2 minute
monologue and be ready to do it a couple of different ways – we are
looking for the ability to shift characters vocally, physically, and
in terms of focus/point of view. Playing the guitar is not
required, but would be a plus. If you play, bring it along and be
prepared to play something of your choice.
